Situated close to the peak of Mount Brinchang in Pahang, the beautiful Mossy Forest is thought to be the oldest forest in Malaysia, dating back around 200 million years. It covers an area of approximately 914 hectares with lush greenery.The highest drive-up mountain in Southeast Asia, reaching 2,031 meters above sea level, is reachable by a muddy Land Cruiser trip. The Tea Plantation at Sungai Palas, one of the most stunning tea farms in South East Asia, is visible during the 20-minute trip.

A MODERN ECOSYSTEM

The path to the destination will take you through an enchanted, mysterious, and maleficent-like forest, with heavy moss clinging to almost every tree. Mist frequently covers the air, and clouds may be seen peeking through the trees, making for an amazing and magnificent experience of the natural world. The forest’s damp and hazy atmosphere serves as a perfect habitat for moss, ferns, lichens, and orchids in addition to providing a home for a variety of montane faunas that are specific to this particular habitat.

The forest is huge and can be challenging for untrained trekkers, thus it is recommended to go with an experienced local guide. Just before Mount Brinchang’s summit, a 200-meter-long elevated boardwalk offers a network of wooden platforms that cut through the jungle. Even though there are rope railings to help you with your hike, the trails are typically difficult, so tourists should exercise caution.

Enjoy the soft, green appearance of the forest created by the thick layers of moss, and lose yourself in the peaceful, yet fascinating, maze of branches and stems entwined in the massive tree canopy. There’s a trail leading up to Mount Irau, the highest point in the Cameron Highlands, at the end of the boardwalk. You will have to head back if you don’t feel for hiking up Mount Irau.
