The root of Borneo Pygmy family

As a matter of fact, the elephants in Kuala Gandah have belonged to the Borneo Pygmy Elephant family. These Borneo elephants are much smaller in size and its population numbers. Therefore, the WWF has classified the Borneo elephants as an endangered elephant species in the Asian region. Namely, in Malaysia, it can only be found in the Kinabatangan National Park as well as one in Pahang National Park.

What do you need to know about the volunteering activity?

  • Cleaning baby elephant paddocks, grand areas and fences
  • Bathing the elephants in turn
